Describe in detail your make-up & costume needs. (Include
reference material to illustrate your needs)
Make-up should be simple and natural looking
throughout, so not to distract attention, be taken seriously, and to look fresh
and positive, which is the mood of each of the articles.
Hair should be in a bun, as this is the most common
hairstyle for dancers, and is widely recognised, meaning that with hair in a
tight, neat ballet bun it will instantly make the model look like a dancer.
For the Bollywood representation, hair in a ponytail would be more appropriate however as it is hairstyle Bollywood dancers tend to have more often than a bun.
The model should be wearing a black leotard of any
style, again the leotard is widely associated with dancers, and therefore will
make them look like a dancer instantly. Also a leotard works for many of the
styles of dance such as gymnastics, cheerleading, yoga and Pilates, and also
generally represents them as a dancer for the picture to be featured in my
first article on healthy eating. The colour black is also the most popular for
dancers of my target audience age range, looks sophisticated, and avoids
clashing with the colours of props/costume or other colours in the article.
For the picture
to represent Bollywood dancing a sari would be appropriate. Although a smaller
costume of a cropped top and skirt is often worn by Bollywood dancers, to
protect the interest of my secondary audience (parents) and to avoid too my
flesh being shown in a tasteless way, and also because of the preference of the
model, being covered up in a sari would be better, whilst still keeping in
accurate context of the form of dance.
Studio shoots: what kind of lighting?
(include reference material to illustrate your needs)
I will be using butterfly lighting for my models so that my images have
little connotations through the way it is lit, but is complimentary to the
model, possibly contributing to the window to the future self technique. For my objects only pictures I will be using broad lighting because they are silver and this will reflect more light, giving a more contrasted kind of picture which I think will be more interesting
Backdrop:
The backdrop for this photo
shoot will be a plain white back drop, with no meaning, no colour clash with
the rest of the article, or with the subject within the picture, and showing
the subject in a clear, fresh way.
