article genre
(purpose, type)
Inspirational, round-up article. Aims to inspire people to try other types of dancing to help improve their technique, flexibility, or strength, or just for fun. Rounds up 7 different styles and gives brief descriptions on each.
Narrative voice
(1st, 2nd or 3rd person)
2nd and 3rd person narrative voice. 2nd person to talk directly to the reader and tell them how the style of dancing could benefit them making it more personal and interactive and 3rd person to describe the styles of dance.
Register
(informal/formal, colloquial, dialect, taboo words?)
Slightly informal language but only in terms of fun, slightly comical, motivating language. Some colloquial and slang to appeal to a young audience, but no taboo words that would take away from the mood or be inappropriate.
Stylistics
(repetition, strong verbs, adjectives, alliteration, similes, metaphors, sentencing, rhythm)
Again colourful, varied, interesting verbs and adjectives in the descriptions to make the different styles of dance as appealing as possible, and each style as different from the next as possible, so that the article isn’t repetitive.
Tone of address
(hectoring, sarcastic, ‘matey’, ironic, etc)
Upbeat, enthusiastic tone so that the reader is motivated to try the styles of dance and so that the descriptions are as appealing as possible.
Structure and pace
(discourse structure, logical paragraphing, connectives, conclusion)
List format so that the reader can dip in and out of the types of dance that appeal to them, and is clear and easy to read. Brief introduction gives a brief summary of how trying other styles of dance can benefit them, and this can determine whether they want to read on or not, depending on whether this appeals to them or not.
